Earlier this week, I made a Pear Puff Pastry Dessert Recipe for last-minute company, with these delicious pears! In fact, we love to set it in the middle of the table with a bunch of forks, and everyone digs in!

Also, here’s one of my favorite fall green salads: Pear Romaine Lettuce Salad with Blue Cheese. And how about a Fall Epic Charcuterie Board for dinner? (wink-wink)

Where to buy perfect pears

If you’ve ever received a Harry & David gift basket, then you’ll recognize this “gold pear.” Inside each gift box of pears is a gold wrapped, gorgeous Royal Riveria pear, so juicy and ripe for eating! I love the old saying, that they are so juicy you can eat them with a spoon!

You can also pick up pears from farm stands, or at your favorite grocery store! And have I mentioned, we LOVE this chicken dish with pears? Roasted Chicken with Honey, Bacon, and Pears! So good!

How to make Pear Puff Pastry

In no time, the dessert was in the oven. A tart is super easy to make!

When it’s done, serve immediately with scoops of vanilla ice cream.

  1. Line large baking sheet (with sides) with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out one sheet of puff pastry according to package directions, keeping square.
  3. Mix sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, crystalized ginger, and sliced pears.
  4. Pour pear mixture into center of puff pastry.
  5. Fold edges up around sides, making a tart.
  6. Brush edges of pie crust with egg white, and sprinkle generously with turbinado sugar.
  7. Add butter pieces on top of pears, in three or four small pads.
  8. Bake until crust is golden brown.
  9. Allow to sit for 5 minutes before serving. Delicious with vanilla ice cream!

It’s delicious made with any kind of pear, but especially good made with Royal Riviera pears!

Harry & David orchards

After a trip to southern Oregon a few years back, we learned about the Harry & David orchards; the extensive process of their harvest season.

They grow about 400 tons of Oregold® Peaches, 15,500 tons of Royal Riviera® Pears, and 800 tons of Bosc pears each year. The total harvest varies based on weather conditions throughout the year.

Depending on the year, pears can ripen anywhere from the second week of August to mid-September. The cooler the growing season, the faster the pears ripen.

I looove this recipe!!!! I had bought some pears on sale and the other night I realized that they were ripe and needed to be used asap. So I came across your recipe and I can’t believe how easy it was to make and how delicious the final product is! My boyfriend isn’t a big fan of pears or even ginger but with a scoop of vanilla ice cream he loved it. It’s definitely going to be a go to dessert recipe for me.
